The Mozilla Philippines Community for the first time, held its Open House last Jan. 24, 2015 at MozSpaceMNL. This event aims to introduce the Mozilla community to aspiring and new contributors.
First, let’s give appreciation to our early birds, the students from the University of Makati!
After some welcome remarks, we did an ‘awkward’ mingling session where everyone needs to talk to someone they do not know and ask some questions about him/her.
After the mingling session, I started the talk about Mozilla, starting with its history. I swear it was very short to ensure that I don’t bore the audience! :-p
After giving a Mozilla and MozillaPH Overview, I also quickly went over the contribution areas to give them an idea about their area of interest.
To ensure that people have a choice of what they want to learn (and to keep them awake, lol), instead of the audience sitting through the whole event listening to all the contribution areas, we tried to be creative and held a speed geeking session! This was actually inspired by the speed geeking session at the CBT Track on MozFest, but here, we aren’t really going to brainstorm ideas.
Me discussing Community Building at Mozilla.
Mozilla Rep Joell discusses the contribution opportunities for devs.
Tina and Ryan explaining what MozillaPH’s Education Team does.
RALs Gio and Osh discussing the Firefox Student Ambassadors (FSA) program to the students.
We had some frequently asked questions from the participants so we decided to allocate time to explain some Mozilla products namely Firefox OS and Webmaker.
Mozilla Rep Joell discussing Firefox OS
Mozilla Rep Ryan discussing the Webmaker project, specifically, AppMaker.
The MozillaPH Open House was very fun and successful for its first time! We met a lot of new people and we loved hearing their enthusiasm after the event. When the program ended, it took a while for the people to disperse as everyone is busy talking to each other!
Our big pizza to celebrate.
Hope to see you on the next event guys! More pictures of the event here.
