Mozilla Philippines Community travelled 91 km from Manila to Gapan City, Nueva Ecija for another awesome MozTour. Our team consisted of Faye Tandog, Tina Verbo, Joshua Rubin, JP Paradeza, and Ryan Ermita(me). This MozTour aims to inform the students of AIE Gapan about Mozilla and its projects: Webmaker, FSA program, WoMoz, and Firefox OS.
Faye Tandog talked about the overview of Mozilla and its projects; projects that aims to promote and protect the open web for the benefits of its users. She was followed by Joshua Rubin, who talked about the FSA program including the advantage of being part of the program and what the students can do to protect the web. After that, I talked about the Webmaker project, which aims to promote web literacy, part of my talk are the Webmaker tools and resources that the user can use to promote and teach Web literacy offline and online. After Webmaker, I talked about Firefox OS and I shared to the students the overview of the OS and how simple it is to developed their own application with just only using the core web technologies and the developer tools provided by Firefox browser. Lastly, Tina Verbo, discussed about the WoMoz program, which aims to encourage women in the tech industry.
It was an awesome MozTour and the attendees are really interested about Mozilla, we even saw an attendee having a Cherry Mobile Ace which is running on Firefox OS! We also received a lot of questions, like, ‘Why some users prefer the other browser over Firefox?’ and ‘Can they install Firefox OS on other mobile devices?’ Which we answered as clear as we can.
To add some fun on our MozTour, we did a simple question and answer game. To those who got the correct answers got a special freebies from us– a free Mozilla t-shirt! Some of our questions were: ‘Who is the father of JavaScript (Brendan Eich)?’ and ‘Which in Firefox OS architecture tells Gaia how things should work? (Gecko)’
