Mozilla Philippines Community 2012 Year-end Blog Post

The year 2012 is a banner year for the Mozilla Philippine Community having organized, attended, and supported some 82 events (big or small) totalling to 114 event days. Add to the fact that the team also traveled some 7,160 kilometers (with Manila as the reference point) from January up to December, truly 2012 was an awesome year for all of us!

Here are some of the highlights for 2012 …

  • For the very first time, the Mozilla Philippines Community was featured on national TV with the appearance of Community Manager Eusebio “Jun” Barrun, Jr. and Regional Localization Leader Robert “Bob” Reyes on ANC’s Future Perfect show.
  • The Philippines joins the biggest Summer Code Party this side of the planet (Southeast & East Asia, that is) during the event staged at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Laguna. The event in itself broke Philippine records as the biggest Summer Code organized (and attended) locally.

  • Mozilla Philippines gets featured in the media; this time by means of an interview by WebGeek Philippines.

November

  • The Community celebrated the 8th birthday of Firefox with a meetup in honor of visiting colleague Ms. Didem Ersoz of WebFWD.
  • The team goes to Youth for IT Conference in Cebu (first time ever that the event is held outside of Metro Manila) and hosted a bigger MozCoffee to Mozillians in the Visayas.

December

  • One of the biggest events for 2012 was the first ever Lipa City Colleges (LCC) IT Convention, organized by the Phil-IT.org team, it was attended by more than 500 students from all over the city in the province of Batangas.
  • Continuing the tradition of awesome planning, the team ventured to a self-organized Business Planning for 2013.
  • And to cap the awesome year, a Translation Marathon was held two (02) days ago. The event was graced by Mozilla’s Localization Community Manager Arky, who will be spending his New Year in the Philippines (his very first visit to the country).

Indeed, the year 2012 was an awesome one for the Mozilla Philippines Community. It has set the standards for what must be expected for 2013. We wish to thank each and everyone who, in one way or another, became part of the community. To our friends and sponsors, who showed support to the events we had organized, thanks and kudos to you all! Let’s get more awesome in 2013.
