It was a Friday night when the Mozilla Philippines Community organized a fun and educating webmaking event at Maker Party Valero last Sept. 6, 2013!
Thank you Globe Labs for sponsoring our venue for that night!
The event had a good attendance despite being held on a Friday night. A good sign which indicates the growing interest on Webmaker here in the Philippines!
Erika and I were the emcees of the event and we sure had a blast with the participation of the attendees!
The event started with an introduction to Mozilla and the Mozilla Philippines Community by our Community Manager, Eusebio “Jun” Barrun.
After his talk, we had some items to raffle and proceeded to the talk of our guest from the Mozilla Foundation, Executive Director Mark Surman!
Mark started with a brief flashback about the history of Mozilla, the Web, and how they connected to form a mission to create a generation of webmakers. He explained how everyone are connected with the help of the web and what each of us can do to contribute to it.
Maker Party Valero had a diverse attendee demographics! Indonesian Mozilla Rep Prima Lovinitra, who visited the Philippines for a vacation, was present to support his fellow Reps!
The attendees and the team surely had fun while in the event. Here are some wacky shots of the people:
And it’s webmaking time! The attendees were given time to use Webmaker to create a page inspired by the rainy season.
All of us had pizzas to keep up with the webmaking.
A few minutes before the deadline, Michelle Santos from Globe Labs announced that they will be giving a cash prize to the winning team and everybody became so competitive all of a sudden.
Tough as it may, the judges have to pic a winner. We chose a submission created by a team of two. It was chosen based on how much Webmaker was used on the project.
Maker Party Valero was definitely a fun-filled night full of learning about how we can teach users to create for the Web and contribute to its growth. It was nice to see a growing interest in teaching the web here in the Philippines and the MozPH team hopes to increase it further through events and intensified community engagement.
After the Maker Party, we headed to a Filipino restaurant for dinner to give our foreign guests a taste of Filipino food! One of the famous exotic Filipino delicacies, balut, was courageously tried by Mark as seen in this video! He seemed to like it though!
