In celebration of the Maker Party Season, the Mozilla Philippines Community organized a Maker Party for teachers & professors, where the attendees deepened their understanding on what the Webmaker project is. In this session, we introduced the Webmaker tools and Teaching kits, which can be used in teaching their students. We also discussed on how they can organize and facilitate their own maker parties.
After a few introduction of what the Webmaker project, Maker Party, and Mozilla. We did a lot of activity to have a deeper understanding about the Webmaker.
To discuss more about the Webmaker core ideas we used the Spectogram Exploring Pedagony, but instead of using Post It Notes and a rating system of 1 to 10, the statements whether they agree or not, participants were divided into two groups: the agree and disagree side.
We got a lot of positive opinions regarding these three statements: (1) Making is always learning; (2) Connected Learning isn’t possible without the web; and (3) Learning is not affected by whether or not we share openly.
To give the attendees a hands-on experience of using the Webmaker tools after demonstration, we used the Collaborative Exploration for our next activity. We grouped them into two to three members per team, and let them explore the Webmaker tools: (1) Thimble; (2) X-ray Goggles; (3) Popcorn Maker; and (4) Appmaker. As we roam around and guide them using the tools, we saw that they are enjoying the activity and most of them are interested in the Appmaker, tool.
After an awesome collaboration on exploring the Webmaker tools, we focused the discussion on OER or the Open Educational Resource. We showed them an example of a Webmaker Teaching kit. To help them to create their own Teaching Kits, we did a simple activity called Prototyping with a teaching kit design canvas; after the activity, we let them showcase their ideas and the things that they want to teach using their teaching kits.
For our final activity, the teaching kits our participants made were shared online so that other learners and Webmaker mentors may learn from those.
Thanks to the Teaching Kit Templates, creating one is as easy as 1, 2, 3!
