Last Jan. 31, the Mozilla Philippines Community had a MozTour for the graduating students of Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Calamba. The MozPH team composed of: Ryan Ermita, Joell Lapitan, Tina Verbo, Faye Tandog, Joshua Rubin, and the FSA club of the colegio. In the event, we share our insights regarding the following: Mozilla Community, Firefox OS, Webmaker, and WoMoz.
The event started with Shane Lopez, FSA club lead from the Colegio introduced the team, followed by Faye Tandog, who talked about the Mozilla Community. She shared the overview of the Mozilla Community, its projects, the opportunities the community gives to its users, and the things the we can do to protect and to have a better web. After that, Ryan Ermita gave a talk about the Webmaker project, where he shared what we can do to teach the web and how we can promote web literacy. He also gave a demonstration of the Webmaker tools namely Thimble, Popcorn Maker, X-ray goggles, and the Appmaker. Afterwards, Tina Verbo, had a talk about the WoMoz program, she shared the mission of the program which is to empower women in the tech industry. Joell Lapitan, gave the last talk, he discussed the Firefox OS, specifically on the tools they need and how to create a simple open web application.
It was very informative event, aside from the Mozilla related information, we also shared what they can expect from the tech industry and discussed some tools that will be very helpful in software development. e.g Github. After the set of talks, we had a simple open forum thing, where they can ask anything about the Mozilla Community and its projects, and the question that I can remember well is: What were our most memorable moments in the Mozilla community. Everyone in the team shared their most memorable moments, some had a trip to another country, meeting new people, and experiencing different culture; and living their passion about the web.
