Earlier tonight, the Localization (L10n) Team of Mozilla Philippines Community (MozillaPH) had its monthly meeting. For a change, we tried something (not really) new: Slack. Tonight’s meeting did not involve video or audio chats, instead, we had a productive online gathering by means of a text chat via https://mozillaph.slack.com.
A total of eight (08) Pinoy Mozillians were present during the online meeting presided by Mozilla Rep & Tech Speaker Robert “Bob” Reyes.
Here’s a recap of the online meeting:
L10n Updates
- As of tonight, Firefox 68 has entered Beta. This version of Firefox is going to be an ESR (Extended Support Release) version. The deadline for our team to ship the Tagalog (TL) version is by June 25.
- Facebook Container on Firefox Desktop is quickly approaching version 2.
- Localization of Lockwise for Android and Lockwise for iOS (formerly known as Lockbox) is due by the 27th of this month.
- Fenix and Android-components string is due by the 13th of June.
Onboarding Process
- MozillaPH needs to have an established and documented onboarding process for new localizers. There was an initial suggestion to have a MOODLE server for this purpose, which is taken into consideration by the group. There will be a separate discussion on how to populate the MOODLE server with content to be consumed by MozillaPH Localizers.
- All TL localizers are asked to review the contents of the Style Guide found at https://mozilla-l10n.github.io/styleguides/tl/. Both old and new localizers must know the Tagalog Style Guide by heart.
- A suggestion was raised to have a Directory of Pinoy Localizers be visible at mozillaphilippines.org. There will be a separate meeting for this sub-project. The directory will be useful for would-be and new localizers to find guides nearest to them.
- If you are currently contributing to the Tagalog localization, please update your Mozillians.org profile and add “tl-localizer” under your skills. By doing so, it would be easier for us to track within the directory who are currently part of the localization efforts.
- If you already have a Mozillians.org profile and needs to be vouched, you may email a request via info@mozillaphilippines.org. More details about Mozillians Vouching can be found here. If you have problems logging to your Mozillians.org account, you may file a bug via Bugzilla.org.
Targets for May-June 2019
- Firefox in Tagalog is currently at 71% completion (as of tonight). With the next deadline set on 25 June 2019, the team needs to work double-time — especially those with approving rights.
- TL Managers and Translators (those with approving suggestions) are keen in bring down the backlog to zero before the deadline.
Other Matters
- I shared a congratulatory message to the team sent by Ben Hearsum, a Mozilla engineer who speaks Tagalog frequently (he’s from Canada).
The next MozillaPH L10n Team meeting will be determined by a Doodle posted on our Facebook Group [https://www.facebook.com/groups/mozillaphlocalization/]. You may also find other Pinoy Localizers via the MozillaPH Slack [https://mozillaph.slack.com] inside the #localization channel.
