Mozilla Philippines Community (MozillaPH) recently had its first-ever MozCafe session for the year in Cagayan de Oro City last January 4, 2020. It was attended by some of Mozilla Philippines’ regional volunteers, and active community organizers within the city.
Discussions yielded awesome ideas on activities and events for the region. Some of the ideas include having an A-Frame and Rust study camp, establishing partnerships with hotels for displaying information sheets, Firefox, and online privacy training, Common Voice sessions, piloting Mozilla Kids and Mozilla Women, and of course more MozCafe sessions within the year.
Updates were also given on the status of MozillaPH localization activities and the release of Tagalog in Firefox 71. Attendees were informed of the new Mozilla Philippines Community Code of Conduct. They were also encouraged to read the Mozilla Manifesto and create Mozillians.org profiles.
MozCafe or MozCoffee (whichever you like it called) is a small scale informal meetup of up to 20 persons where a report is given of recent activities and upcoming projects of a community as well as get ideas and feedback from the general public. The idea for this event is to be easily reproducible and as frequent as possible, serving as a meeting point and reference event for local communities.
Cagayan de Oro’s first MozCafe event was hosted by Romar Mayer Micabalo, MozillaPH’s Regional Coordinator for Mindanao, and was held at the cozy Coffee Project Cafe at the Limketkai Center Complex.
