Mabuhay, Pinoy Mozillians! How’s your community quarantine so far? Hope you and your families are still doing well.
Over the last few weeks, as everyone is busy preparing for the opening of classes this school year (some schools already had started their academic year weeks ago), there has been an influx of tech support related messages not just on our social media channels as an organization, but also on our personal accounts from friends and family members. From questions related to internet connectivity to troubleshooting computers and software to people asking for advice on the right device or hardware to use, name it, the core members of our community had received those kinds of inquiries since the lockdowns started.
These past few days, the leadership of the Mozilla Philippines Community (MozillaPH) had been brainstorming on how we can help parents, educators, and students experience more awesome homeschooling during this pandemic.
Introducing: Project AskAlab
Alab (blaze; flame) is the official mascot of MozillaPH.
Project AskAlab brings together volunteers (Mozillians and Non-Mozillians) who are selflessly willing to share their time and talent to people who need homeschooling-related technical assistance.
We shall be utilizing the power of social media combined with a tech support tool to ease the (technical) burden experienced by homeschooling stakeholders during this community quarantine.
Wanted: Volunteers Willing to Help
If you can spare an hour or two every day (or night) and wish to be part of this endeavor as a volunteer techie, kindly accomplish this online form the soonest. We are scheduling the onboarding sessions for all volunteers sometime between September 1 and 4, 2020 (at different time slots).
If you have questions related to Project AskAlab, please feel free to leave a comment on this post or send us an email using any of the contact channels.
Let us make the Internet a safer and enjoyable environment for our learners. Maraming salamat po!
