MozillaPH Shortlisted as Finalist at the Privacy Awareness Week Awards 2021

During the recently held 4th Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) online last 27-28 May 2021, organized by the National Privacy Commission (NPC), the Mozilla Philippines Community (MozillaPH) emerged as a finalist at the first-ever PAW Awards 2021.

With this year’s theme of “Valuing Privacy in the Time of Digital Transformation: Protecting Filipinos. Promoting Economic Recovery. Building Trust,” the annual national celebration aims to emphasize the role of data privacy and protection to harness opportunities in the fast-growing digital economy and to help the country build back stronger and inclusively. Institutionalized four (04) years ago, the PAW was created to promote data privacy as a tool for overall national development.

At the conclusion of this year’s PAW celebration, the NPC has produced the PAW Awards to recognize outstanding privacy practices throughout different sectors. For the first time since the establishment of the NPC, data privacy leaders and advocates who have greatly contributed to the foundation of data privacy in the country were awarded by Commissioner Liboro himself.

Individuals and institutions joined the nominations through data privacy initiatives and showed compliance with the Data Privacy Act (DPA). MozillaPH was hailed as a finalist under the Outstanding Privacy Initiative of 2021 together with some of the big names in the Philippines corporate scene.

Even if we are not able to win the award, being nominated is more than enough recognition for a tiny non-profit organization like ours — a win for #PrivacyPH.

From all of us at the Mozilla Philippines Community (MozillaPH), our profound gratitude and appreciation to the National Privacy Commission for this recognition. Maraming salamat po!

I have a list of the Privacy Awareness Week Awards 2021 winners at my personal blog.
