Last 30 July 2021, more than a month ago, we sent the following letter via email to Philippine Senator Nancy Binay:
In the letter, we stated our support for the passing of the Open Access in Data Transmission Bill a year ago. The said bill aims at establishing a forward-looking and future-ready digital policy framework for the Philippines.
In the same letter, we reiterated our stand and belief that the ratification of the said bill will give Filipinos an equal footing in various industries and spaces where access to the information superhighway is deemed critical.
As a local community, we sent Senator Nancy Binay the letter as she heads the Science and Technology Committee — as there is no ICT committee of sorts in the Philippine Senate. We also stated in the said letter that the Mozilla Philippines Community (MozillaPH) is more than willing to be part of the legislative exercise should her committee require our participation.
A follow-up email was sent last 10 August 2021, carbon copied Senate President Vicente Sotto III — not even an acknowledgment on the receipt of our email was received from the senator’s end.
Now, we are thinking of sending the letter via snail mail (or perhaps, via registered mail).
