MozillaPH Hosted a “How to Contribute to MDN Web Docs?” Event

As part of Mozilla’s commitment to providing the most accurate documentation for web development, the Mozilla Philippines Community (MozillaPH) conducted a “How to Contribute to MDN Web Docs?” session last 13 November 2021 via Zoom Meeting.

MDN Web Docs (formerly the Mozilla Developer Network) is the go-to website for information about Open Web technologies to include HTML, CSS, and APIs for both websites and progressive web apps (PWAs).

There was a total of twenty-one (21) who showed up in the virtual meeting room to learn how they can be part of this endeavor. The profile of the attendees is a mix of students (developers and non-developers) and professionals (developers and non-developers). The session gave participants an idea of what Mozilla is and how one can be part of MDN.

MDN Web Docs Bug Hunting Session

For the monthly online meetup of November 2021, MozillaPH thought of something different away from the usual topic talks from different resource speakers we have.

An MDN Web Docs Bug Hunting Session was organized via Zoom Meeting last 27 November 2021. Hosted by me, a total of ten (10) participants showed up that night. This was the very first of its kind activity related to MDN Web Docs for MozillaPH and served as a follow-up event to the previous one that same month.

After giving an abridged version of the “How to Contribute to MDN Web Docs?” talk and demo, participants used the remainder of the session (90 minutes out of the 120 minutes allocated for the entire online event) to find and report bugs.

A total of seven (07) bugs were filed via GitHub: here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

To add as motivation to participants, the first five (05) persons to have their (valid) bugs closed will receive a locally-printed Firefox shirt. MozillaPH intends to have a regular MDN Web Docs bug hunting session by 2022.
