Mozilla Philippines (MozillaPH), the official representative of the global non-profit Mozilla in the country, is dedicated to advocating for an open, accessible, and secure Internet for all. As part of the broader Mozilla community, we champion digital rights, privacy, and innovation to ensure that technology serves the public good.
In line with this mission, Mozilla Philippines (MozillaPH) strongly urges the Senate of the Philippines to take immediate action on the Konektadong Pinoy Bill (Senate Bill No. 2699) before the legislative session adjourns on 07 February 2025. The bill represents a critical step in ensuring accessible, reliable, and affordable internet for all Filipinos — an advocacy that aligns with our commitment to fostering a more open and inclusive digital landscape.
For too long, the Philippines has struggled with slow and costly internet due to outdated regulatory barriers that stifle competition and hinder infrastructure development. By streamlining licensing processes and strengthening the National Telecommunications Commission’s (NTC) regulatory capacity, this legislation will enable greater investment, foster innovation, and improve connectivity, especially in underserved communities.
President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s urgent certification of the bill underscores its importance to national digital transformation efforts. However, despite broad support from key industry stakeholders, businesses, and advocacy groups, the measure remains stalled in the Senate Committee on Science and Technology. This inaction threatens to further widen the digital divide and slow economic growth at a time when reliable connectivity is more critical than ever.
As part of a global movement advocating for digital rights, Mozilla Philippines calls on Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, as committee chair, to advance this bill without further delay. The future of digital access and innovation in the country depends on decisive leadership and action. The time to act is now.
